Random thoughts...
Right. The weather has been really, really strange lately. If you've talked to anyone who lives in S. Cali, you'll know that it's been insanely hot the last few days. I've had constant headaches the last two days because the school's turned up all the ACs, so it's really hot walking inbetween classes, then freezing inside class. It's the combination of hot, cold, hot, cold, hot, cold... it was driving me nuts.
But today... well, today was nice weather... probably in the low 80s? Lots of wind, and it was really cloudy later in the day (I thought it might rain! O.o;;) despite how freakin' bright it was earlier on. I need to start wearing sunglasses to school. My eyes hurt from the light within minutes of being outside. *shrugs* Guess I really am a night person.

Sorry. ^^;; Tis only the first scene of the side story to Vigilae Mortuorum for which I have no title. XD I can't seem to find my notes on it anywhere. It's a conversation in the other universe to keep you up-to-date with the people there. :D There are more scenes than this to the sidestory, but I currently can't find the notebook I've written it in. ^^;; So here's the first scene.
“How do you think Harry’s doing?”
Draco and Blaise were lounging around in the library again, having gone there to try and finish off homework without the usual distractions of games and other things to do. Instead, they found themselves trying to put off the work for as long as they could, browse through the textbooks without actually reading the information inside.
The two Slytherin boys were taking up the largest table in the library, filling the spaces with random books that they would never read just to look ‘studious’. There were various old tomes flipped open to pages near the end, making it look like they were deeply engrossed with research and writing reports when in reality, the both of them had been doodling caricatures of people at school.
Blaise muttered a spell under his breath and watched with a pleased expression as his stick figures started moving on the paper. Draco leaned over the table and smirked as he watched the stick figures play out their little story: a figure in Slytherin Quidditch robes and auburn hair (Blaise, obviously) was standing on the Gryffindor Quidditch team (Draco thought that he could see the red hair of Ronald Weasley at the very bottom of the dog-pile, with little X’s for eyes.) and handing to Quidditch Cup to a stick figure with black hair and green eyes framed by horribly big glasses.
The picture animated so that the ‘Harry’ stick figure accepted the Cup from ‘Blaise’ gratefully and was swept up by ‘Blaise’ so that ‘Blaise’ was carrying ‘Harry’ and the Cup and still standing atop the Gryffindor Quidditch team with a cocky grin.
Draco snickered.
Hearing his best friend’s muffled laughter; Blaise looked up and glared weakly at the other boy, pulling his doodles more closely to his own side. “Oy! Find your entertainment elsewhere!”
“You do remember that Harry’s a Gryffindor too?” Draco asked after he managed to calm down his laughter. The blonde was poking through his homework in various stages of completion. “I doubt anything like that would come true even if Harry were here right now.”
“Yes,” came the dry comment from behind where Blaise was sitting. “You’d have to beat the Gryffindor team first. And that by itself is impossible.”
Both boys looked up and grinned, trying to no avail to clear up a space at their table so their intruder could sit down comfortably. “Hermione!” Blaise greeted jovially. “We thought you were still tutoring Longbottom!”
“And Gryffindor hasn’t won the House Cup lately either.” Draco pointed out as the brown-haired girl settled herself down in a heap at their table, her bookbag making an audible ‘thump’ as it slammed onto the tabletop. “Neither of our Houses have had good teams these years.”
“Slytherin might have a good team,” Hermione teased, “If only Blaise could find the snitch faster than Ginny does.”
“And Gryffindor would have a good team,” Blaise put in snidely, “If your boyfriend could keep anything out of the hoops.”
“We still seem to be doing better than the Slytherin team, though.” Hermione replied, not in the least disgruntled. She turned her attention elsewhere, though, when Blaise just snorted. “And why aren’t you on the Quidditch team, Draco? I would think that with your fascination for the game, you’d want to be a part of it.”
Draco shrugged, returning to his doodles. He had actually thought about that a lot in the previous years. Draco remembered wanting nothing more but to be on the Slytherin Quidditch team when he first got to Hogwarts. But he had wanted to play Keeper, and the Slytherin position for that hadn’t been open until fifth year, when he wasn’t interested anymore.
“Oh, he’s one of the top cheerers in the Slytherin stands.” Blaise quipped. “That’s like being part of the team already. If he really did get a position on our team, we’d lose our best cheerleader!”
“Surely you’re a good flyer,” Hermione continued on, completely ignoring Blaise. “How come you haven’t tried out?”
Draco shrugged, not really wanting to talk about it. “The motive wasn’t there. Guess there was no one on the other teams that really made me want to play against them.”
“Wonder if Harry would have been a good flyer?” Blaise mused. “We never got to watch him fly.”
The bushy haired Gryffindor witch settled herself comfortable at their table, eyeing the books in front of her warily. It certainly didn’t look like the boys were really paying attention to those precious books. “Harry? Are you kidding? He’s not exactly the most graceful just on the ground.”
“You don’t have to be graceful on the ground to be graceful in the air,” Draco cut in, finally putting down his quill. He turned his attention inward as he contemplated the idea. “And I heard that Professor Potter used to be a terrific flyer- he used to be a Chaser for Gryffindor, if I’m correct.”
“Boys and Quidditch.” Hermione rolled her eyes. “I’m starting to think that Draco’s the only sensible one by not trying out.”
“Now you’re making me sound unmanly.” Draco grumbled from across the table.
Blaise snickered, dropping his head to the table so that he wouldn’t burst out laughing. It took a few moments before the boy could look up again, and only managed to get out, “You really don’t want to know what we think about your ‘manliness’, Drake.”
“Where’s Carnus?” Hermione asked suddenly when she realized what seemed slightly off with the picture of the two boys in the library. The snake that Harry had entrusted into Draco’s care had barely ever left the Slytherin’s side after Harry had left. It was odd to see a red and gold snake sometimes curled up around the shoulders of the blonde Slytherin, but after a week or so people just got used to the sight.
“Off somewhere taking an afternoon nap.” Draco grumbled. “Damn snake’s been hogging up all my blankets lately… don’t know why it insists on sleeping in my bed. It’s extremely creepy to wake up with a huge snake in your bed.”
Hermione looked sympathetic. “He is getting quite big…”
In the several weeks that Harry had been gone, Carnus had already grown to be about one and a half meters in length. As of yet, there were several students from different houses speculating what type of species that snake was. It’s attachment to Harry seemed to have spawned it’s attachment to all of Harry’s friends, Draco in particular.
Despite the cold weather, it was rare to see Carnus not lounging around the Gryffindors or Slytherins.
“On the subject of your manliness,” Blaise pipped up, “At least you can say you’ve got an unusually big snake.”
It only took moments before the conversation deteriorated to Draco throwing a book at Blaise, only to have Hermione protest on his mistreatment of books.

But wow. Seventies? I want low seventies. I love cold weather. XD I remembering thinking it was hot when it hit 68 degrees a few months back. Now I'll settle for anything below 85. ^^;; Anything above that is way too hot!

Two days ago, we had 102 degrees F down here.
>___<
It makes me wonder why my family lives here if we all hate hot weather.

*mwahaha* THAT was a GREAT line...

I take this to mean there is more to come? *crosses fingers* Thanks for posting that scene!
If you've talked to anyone who lives in S. Cali, you'll know that it's been insanely hot the last few days.
I'm almost jealous. The past week has just been rain, rain, and more rain. And to top it off yesterday we had 40mph gusts and 30mph today. Damn Kansas weather...

Wow! Cool weather! :O It was insanely hot the beginning of this week ranging around 99 degrees at school. ~_~ Now it's gone back down again (which is, of course, a Very Good Thing) and it's not that hot anymore. ^^;; I dunno- I wish it would rain. T_T Nothing gets rid of California pollution better than rain. *sighs wistfully*
